The Heroic Deed of Medic Yulia Yavorskaya Among the medical service workers, 88% of the losses during the war years were borne by medics. They were the ones who dragged the wounded from the battlefield under bullets and shrapnel. In such conditions, a medical worker needed not only to provide first aid quickly but also to know how to shoot. Today you will learn the amazing story of medic Yulia Yavorskaya, who saved 56 wounded. But in a critical moment of one of the battles, she had to take up a rifle. A unique case: a medical service worker was appointed to command a section of automatic riflemen. We tell how the girl went from being a medic to the commander of a unit at the forefront of the attack. Yulia's combat path began in July 1942 on the Don Front. The girl served as a medic in the 412th Regiment of the 1st Rifle Division. Her unit was defending in the area of the village of Verkhny Mamon in the Voronezh region. On this sector of the front, the Soviet positions were attacked by the allies of the Germans - the Italians. The fights in September were particularly fierce; on one day, Yavorskaya carried 12 wounded soldiers and officers from the battlefield. During the battle, Yulia not only dragged out the wounded but also covered them with her rifle fire. With precise shots, she eliminated two enemies, and then with a grenade throw, she blew up an enemy soldier hiding in a house. When the second number of the machine gun crew was knocked out of action, Yulia took his place and helped fire at the enemy. For this act of bravery, Yulia Yavorskaya was awarded the "For Combat Merits" medal. The commanders noticed the medic and assigned her to a new position. Now Yavorskaya was commanding a section of automatic riflemen and was promoted to the rank of sergeant major. In December 1942, the regiment in which Yavorskaya served went on the offensive. Yulia participated in the most responsible combat operations. For instance, in the area of the village of Galievka, the girl went on reconnaissance several times. And during the battle for the village of Filonovo, Yavorskaya was the first to burst into the settlement, eliminated several enemy soldiers, and captured six prisoners. Wounded by enemy fire, the girl did not leave the battlefield until the complete liberation of the village. For the courage and bravery shown then, Sergeant Major Yavorskaya was awarded the Order of the Red Star. The girl continued to fight just as fearlessly and by August 1943 was already commanding a platoon of automatic riflemen. That month, she participated in a tense battle for the village of Bezlyudovka in the Kharkov region. During the attack, Yavorskaya was severely wounded but agreed to go to the hospital only after the operation was completely finished. The girl fought desperately; it was already her fourth injury. After a long treatment, in May 1944, Yulia returned to the front again. She distinguished herself during the crossing of the Dniester River near the village of Varnitsa near Chisinau. At Yavorskaya's initiative, a group of scouts was created from automatic riflemen to identify enemy fire points on the front line. Thanks to Yulia's ingenuity and courage, the operation was successful. Her group captured a "control prisoner", scouted the positions of the Germans, and returned without losses. For her deed, the girl was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class. Yulia Demyanovna Yavorskaya fought through the entire Great Patriotic War. She was wounded four times, awarded orders, and medals. Yavorskaya welcomed Victory already in the rank of junior lieutenant of the guards.
