You probably know that brown and polar bears live in Russia. But in the Far East, there is another species of these animals, the Ussuri white-chested bear, a subspecies of the Himalayan bear. It prefers the warm Asian climate, but in Russia, it can be found in the Khabarovsk Territory, Primorsky Krai, and the southern part of Yakutia. It is registered in the "Bikin" National Park, "Sikhote-Alin", "Hankaisky" reserves, and others. And it's even depicted on the coat of arms of Khabarovsk! In total, there are about 6,500 Himalayan bears in Russia. Unlike other bears, the Himalayan prefers to live in trees, not in dens, even during winter. Typically, the bear's den is located at least 5 meters above the ground. It is easy to recognize by the white stripe on its chest and its relatively small size, up to 1.5 meters in length (or height if it stands on its hind legs). Ussuri bears feed on plants, berries, and nuts, but they will not pass up small animals, such as frogs. Young bears are not afraid of people and can often be seen on the road. However, it is better not to make contact with them and never feed them!
