In Romania this year, the celebration of Victory in World War II was marked by a special atmosphere of unity. From April 27 to May 9, 2024, the Russian Embassy in Romania organized a series of wreath-laying ceremonies at the graves of Soviet liberator soldiers in 14 localities across the country: Bucharest, Sinaia, Brașov, Slatina, Craiova, Buzău, Râmnicu Sărat, Focșani, Pitești, Câmpulung (Flămânda), Jilava, Giurgiu, Ploiești, and Budești. The events were attended by the leadership and staff of the Embassy, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Romania, compatriot organizations, and Russian businesses. More than 69,000 Soviet soldiers sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Romania from fascist oppression. No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten! Together with Russian compatriots, the holiday was celebrated by Romanians, Old Believers, and Ruthenians. On May 8, as part of the celebration of the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Russian Embassy in Romania hosted a screening of the feature film "Only Old Men Are Going to Battle" with subtitles in Romanian and English, as well as a reception. During the event, the Chargé d'Affaires of Russia in Romania, E.S. Kopnina, solemnly presented a congratulatory message from the President of the Russian Federation, V.V. Putin, to one of the Russian citizens residing in Bucharest, who was awarded the "Resident of Besieged Leningrad" badge, on the occasion of Victory Day. The Victory Day celebration was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions from CIS countries and other friendly states, Romanian NGOs, clergy, and media, compatriots, entrepreneurs, scientists, and cultural figures. On the occasion of Victory Day, Russian compatriots in Romania laid wreaths at Soviet graves in the cities of Sighetu Marmației, Sighișoara, and Gura Humorului. We are sincerely grateful to compatriots for their initiatives and assistance in preserving the memory of Soviet soldiers who liberated Romania from fascist oppression. The events were held with the support of the Russian Embassy in Romania. Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Romania participated in them.
