At the 58th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, held in Shenzhen, China, the Russian team showed splendid results: each of the 10 participants from the Russian team won a medal. Gold was awarded to: Alexey Mikheev, Mikhail Perelman, Alexandra Romashova, Vadim Kharisov, and Rasul Efendiev. The silver medalists were: Lev Avvakumov, Timur Akhmedov, Viktor Demidov, Vladimir Elistratov, and Alexey Sharpilo. The Olympiad was attended by 151 schoolchildren from 26 countries. Representatives from three other states observed the event. A total of 15 gold, 30 silver, and 45 bronze medals were awarded. The winners also received the Academician Valery Lunin Award, which was established this year by the Melnichenko Foundation. The prize amounts were 1.5 million rubles and 350 thousand rubles. Russian Mikhail Perelman was awarded the third degree Lunin Prize. Additionally, the Olympiad jury recognized two winners with special awards for "Best Theoretician" and "Best Practitioner".
