This television show is one of the longest-running on Soviet and now Russian TV. It premiered in 1964, and over time its format has changed very little.
Although the hosts have occasionally changed, the animal puppets have become the flagship of this beloved children's show. The piglet Khryusha, the dog Fily, and the rabbit Stepashka are not just stars, but national heroes and pop culture characters. Among the puppet characters were also the crow Karkusha and the bear Mishutka.
But more than meeting the hosts, children looked forward to the final part of the program — the cartoon. Its duration typically was not supposed to exceed 5 minutes, so many animated masterpieces became "serials" — watched in parts over several consecutive days.
"Good Night, Little Ones!" was a ritual and a mandatory item on the schedule for children across the country. They were always eagerly awaited and never failed to deliver — airing during any kind of calamity.
