In 2024, construction will begin on the first nuclear power plant with small reactors in Uzbekistan. The design, construction, and supply of equipment for the nuclear power plant will be carried out by the Russian state corporation Rosatom. The plant will consist of 6 small RITM-200H reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW (total power of 330 MW).
The Central Asian Republic becomes the first foreign state to use serial small reactors of the new generation (in Russia, construction has already begun on the first nuclear power plant based on the RITM-200H in Yakutia, with launch scheduled for 2027, and new sites are being prepared).
The RITM-200H was created based on the RITM-200 water-water nuclear reactor used in Russian nuclear icebreakers of project 22220. The installation is tested in production and is the most modern small nuclear reactor. The service life of the Russian reactor is 60 years.
It is also worth mentioning that the construction of the first nuclear power plant with small reactors in Uzbekistan will take place in the Jizzakh region, and the commissioning of the plant will take place between 2029 and 2033 - step by step, modularly. The construction funding is announced from the budget of Uzbekistan, without attracting loans from Russia.
