May 21, 2024 marks the 160th anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War.
On this occasion, the premiere of the play "The Last of the Departed", based on the novel of the same name by Bagrat Shinkuba, is planned in Istanbul.
According to the director, rehearsals have been underway for two months, with the performance scheduled for the end of May.
The play features the dance ensembles "Nart" and "Ahaq'w'tra". Rehearsals are held both in Istanbul and in Sakarya. The play's choreographer, Erik Tyrkba, is currently working on the mass scenes.
After the Istanbul premiere, the play will be shown in densely populated areas where Abkhazian descendants reside. "We hope to collaborate and bring this play to Abkhazia. We plan to achieve this by autumn," said Madina Argun. Regarding the challenges encountered, the director noted a language barrier issue as the play is performed in Turkish.
"In the beginning, there was a misunderstanding, but over time this barrier was overcome. Everyone is working with great enthusiasm and commitment," she said.
A large team is helping to realize the project to stage the play.
This includes the chairperson of the Federation of Abkhaz Cultural Centers in Levant, Atryshba, the leader of the "Nart" ensemble, Ersin Kvitcinia, the authorized representative of Abkhazia in Turkey, Ibrahim Avidzba, and the political advisor to the Abkhazian representation in Turkey, Jansuh Lazba.
Madina Argun expressed deep gratitude to the State Committee for Repatriation, the Ministry of Culture, the mayor of Sukhumi, Beslan Eshba, and the chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abkhazo-Abazin Congress, Musa Ekzekov, for supporting the project.
