Date according to the old style: April 6. This day is named in honor of two saints – Archbishop of Constantinople Eutychius, who lived in the 6th century, and martyr Jeremiah, who died for his faith in the 3rd century. In Russia, on the day of Eutychius and Erema (Jeremiah), predictions were made about the bread harvest. For this, the weather was observed; the absence of wind was considered a good sign. It was said: "If Eutychius is quiet – expect a good harvest of early grains, but when Erema brings wind – it will damage the crop"; "Erema the Springtime rages, threatens with wind – it is not good to sow in spring, you won’t gather the seeds." On Eutychius' day, apple trees usually bloom. In Russian folklore, they have always been symbols of maiden beauty and innocence, hence in wedding songs the bride is often compared to a blossoming tree. On this day, it was necessary to honor the apple tree – to bow to it, support its branches so they could hold the future harvest, paint the trunk to protect against harmful insects. It was not a sin to eat soaked apples – if, of course, they had been preserved until spring. Name days on this day: Gregory, Jeremy, John, Methodius, Paul, Peter, Sebastian, Jacob
