Today, in the Russian House Abroad, the exhibition "Ars Sacra nova. From Myth to Symbol..." opens, and it will last until September 15. The full title of the exhibition is "Ars Sacra nova. From Myth to Symbol. Russian History and Gospel Themes in the Art of Modernist Artists from Russia and the Russian Diaspora, 1900-1940. Painting, Graphic Arts, Sculpture, Decorative Art Objects, Photography, Archival Documents". The turn of the 19th and 20th centuries—a time of change and impending catastrophe—was most fruitful for artistic culture. Historical figures and saints, real historical events and myths—all inspired artists, reflecting the intense philosophical and moral searches of the era. The answer to these spiritual searches was seen, among other things, in a return to authentic popular, religious-moral roots. The exhibition will feature rare works by V. Vasnetsov and his younger brother A. Vasnetsov; an extremely rare study for the great painting by P. Korin "Alexander Nevsky"; historical works by the master of "poetic realism" M. Nesterov; the first experiments of I. Bilibin in the field of monumental church painting; works by K. Lebedev, a recognized master of the historical genre, who repeatedly addressed the theme of the Time of Troubles. The exhibition is organized with the support of the Foundation.
