Norway has announced the closure of transit travel through the country for Russian citizens starting from May 29. The country can only be visited with work or study visas, for meetings with close relatives, or with a residence permit.
The Vice President of the Russian Union of the Tourism Industry (RUI), Dmitry Gorin, communicated that transit through Norway for Russians will be impossible from this date. Peskov criticized Norway's decision to ban entry to Russian tourists, and Zakharova called this ban discriminatory.
"Additionally, the possibility of making a transit trip to this country is also closing, as after the closure of the Russian-Finnish border, some tourists crossed the border through Norway," said Gorin, whose words were cited by the RUI press service. The expert reminded that Norway has not issued tourist visas to Russians since 2022. However, Russians could visit Norway with visas from other Schengen countries, being individual trips.
"From a tourism perspective, these were mostly individual trips, the country always attracting with its unique natural opportunities, fishing possibilities, and excursion program," added Gorin.
The Embassy's comment regarding Norway's closure of entry for Russian citizens traveling for tourism purposes or other purposes that Norwegian authorities do not consider necessary:
"We regard the decision of the Norwegian authorities as another unfriendly and politically motivated step. The new discriminatory restrictions will affect the interests of ordinary Russians. We believe that such measures only discourage people from visiting this country and taking an interest in its culture. Maybe this is the goal."
