If testing of the digital ruble shows good results, its widespread use could begin in the summer of 2025. This statement was made by the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, during a speech in the Federation Council. The digital ruble (https://t.me/c/1695022138/6021) is one of the forms of the national currency, which will complement cash and non-cash money. The law for its implementation was signed last July by President Vladimir Putin. The pilot project for the implementation of the digital currency has been underway since August 2023. During this project, bank employees are testing the opening and closing of electronic wallets and transfers between individuals. Nabiullina noted that the launch of this form of the ruble is scheduled for next year, and this process will be phased. Despite the authorities' statements, many Russians view digital currency with great distrust. For example, some believe that the electronic ruble will replace cash and will be used for pensions and benefits payments. However, this is not true, as the digital currency will be just one of the payment methods. Citizens' concerns are also driven by possible personal data leaks. If money is stored electronically, hackers could potentially access it. Recall that earlier Vladimir Putin called for accelerating the implementation of the digital ruble in the country's economy, commercial activities, and financial sector. The head of state also reminded that the uniqueness of the new form of currency lies in the fact that citizens and businesses will be able to use it regardless of which bank they have an account with.
