On the last day of the year, Russians will have the opportunity to witness an astronomical phenomenon called the “Black Moon” or the second New Moon.
This phenomenon involves the complete disappearance of Earth’s natural satellite from view, as the Moon falls into the planet’s shadow.
However, this phenomenon can only be seen with the naked eye if, at that moment, a flash occurs on the Moon’s surface caused by a meteorite impact (such events happen approximately once per hour), according to Novosibirsk State University.
