The Siberian State Medical University (SibGMU) and the Buryat State Agricultural Academy named after V. R. Filippov (BGSHA) plan to collaborate on the development and production of medicines from plant-based raw materials, according to the BGSHA website. The universities intend to conduct joint scientific research using the infrastructure of both educational institutions. Last year, BGSHA scientists, in collaboration with other universities, developed formulas for biologically active supplements from local plants, aimed at enhancing the body’s resistance, protecting brain cells, and regenerating liver cells. Medicinal plants growing in Buryatia inspire scientists to create new medicines. In May 2024, specialists from the Buryat State University named after Dorji Banzarov and the Russian National Research Medical University named after Pirogov announced the creation of a drug based on wormwood and essential oils, with anti-tumor and regenerative effects. In August 2023, experts in the Russian phytoproduct market initiated the creation of a unified cluster in the country to replace the import of medicinal plants. This cluster is expected to bring together scientific centers, enterprises cultivating medicinal plants, educational institutions, and businesses. They also emphasized the need to replenish the seed stock, expand the cultivation areas, upgrade equipment, and train personnel in this field.
