On November 16, 2024, the international educational event "Geographical Dictation-2024" was held at the "Russian Club" at the Russian Embassy in Romania, organized by the "Russian Geographical Society." This year marked its tenth edition, setting new records: the dictation was written at 11,020 locations in 119 countries worldwide, including Russia. Since 2015, the event has reached over 3.6 million participants. Several dozen participants in Romania, after hearing greetings from Russian cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station, answered 40 questions about explorers, educators, travelers, and researchers of Earth's most inaccessible corners. 90% of the questions were contributed by participants in the "Write Your Question for the Geographical Dictation" contest. The questions were voiced by theater and film actress, People's Artist of Russia Maria Aronova; writer-essayist and Director General of the State L.N. Tolstoy Museum in Moscow, Vladimir Tolstoy; and Natalia O'Shea (Helavisa), the lead singer of the musical group "Melnitsa." Additionally, with the help of artificial intelligence technologies and expert support from "Sber AI," participants heard the questions voiced by the great Russian writer and thinker Leo Tolstoy, Russian poet and writer Sergei Yesenin, and opera singer Feodor Chaliapin. The goal of the event is to motivate people to study geography, popularize geographical knowledge, and increase interest in the geography of Russia.
