The first next-generation electric buses will start arriving in Russia's capital by 2025. The vehicle will feature a cabin with 35 seats and a maximum capacity of up to 85 passengers. The body production technology has been refined, and the middle door will open differently for passenger convenience. The new electric bus offers a range of up to 100 km and fast charging capabilities from a special station in just 55 minutes. It uses synchronous motors with permanent magnets (as part of an electric portal axle) with a total output of 360 kW (equivalent to nearly 490 hp). The bus is equipped with lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries with a total capacity of 230 kWh. Its maximum speed reaches 70 km/h. The vehicle boasts an extensive package of features, including a dual-zone climate control system with air disinfection, a ramp for passengers with reduced mobility, electronic information boards, multiple cameras, Wi-Fi access points, charging ports for devices in the cabin, a tire pressure monitoring system, rain and light sensors, modern lighting, safety, driver assistance, and passenger counting systems. The first KAMAZ-5222 will be delivered to Moscow's public transport system, where over 1,000 electric buses from the previous generation, KAMAZ-6282, are already in operation in 2024. Deliveries to other Russian cities are expected to follow.
