During World War II, from September 1944 to August 1945, Julbars served in the 14th Assault Engineer-Sapper Brigade, detecting 7,486 mines and over 150 shells in Czechoslovakia, Austria, Romania, and Hungary. His bravery earned him the "For Combat Merit" medal, and on June 24, 1945, he became an honorary participant in the Red Square parade.
Due to severe injuries at the end of the war, Julbars was unable to walk on his own during the parade. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Mazover, commander of the 37th Demining Battalion, gently carried the heroic dog in a special tray made from Joseph Stalin’s coat.
After the war, Julbars not only became a national hero but also a movie star, playing a role in the film “White Fang” (1946), based on Jack London’s novel.
