ROZNAZ – A special detachment of reconnaissance divers under the fleet headquarters, created before the Great Patriotic War. Officially, it did not exist, disguising itself as a training unit under EPRON (Emergency Rescue Service). Only those who had completed special courses or had significant experience were recruited. There were about 150 people in total. The divers gathered information and conducted sabotage operations.
ZENIT – A secret unit composed of KGB officers who had undergone advanced training courses. Very few people knew of its existence. They arrived in Afghanistan under the guise of engineers to assess the situation before the deployment of troops. They also conducted covert operations, including the evacuation of ministers.
KASKAD – A detachment of KGB officers created before 1980 to combat the Mujahideen using guerrilla tactics. More well-known than "Zenit," "Kaskad" transmitted intelligence to officers. In 1981, a new unit, "Vympel," specializing in reconnaissance and terrorist capture, was created based on "Kaskad" and "Zenit."
