Russian athletes won 21 gold medals at the World Cup in Ice Swimming in Argentina. At the international competition, which took place in El Calafate from August 12 to 17, the Russian team, competing under the national flag, won a total of 34 medals, including 21 gold.
77-year-old Vyacheslav Tikhonov from Svetlogorsk, a multiple world, European, and Russian champion and record holder in winter swimming, admitted that Russian cold endurance culture played an important role in successful swims, enhancing the body's stamina.
The Russians noted that there was an excellent, friendly atmosphere at the competition.
"We started exchanging gear, and eventually, half of the Argentine team was wearing Russian hats," said team captain Andrey Zamyslov. "After the award ceremony, one of the participants came up to our athletes: 'Thank you. Russians have big hearts. You are very strong! You will continue to win.'"
Our athletes thank the Argentinians for the warm welcome and hope for further strengthening of cooperation between our countries in the field of sports.
