This year, search operations were conducted in the area of Heights 269.8 (Podkop) and 275.6 (Zaitseva Hill), the sites of heroic battles during the Great Patriotic War.
From 1942 until the spring of 1943, the armies of the Western Front fought relentless and bloody battles against the German Army Group “Center” for control of this strategically important highway.
Search efforts in these areas have been ongoing for years, but each time, new clues are uncovered.
The conclusion of this long and intense expedition was marked by a burial ceremony at the military memorial “Height 269.8 – Zaitseva Hill.”
During the excavations, the remains of 125 soldiers were discovered, and today they were laid to rest.
The ceremony was attended by State Duma Deputy of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the “Search Movement of Russia” Elena Tsunaeva, leader of the “Rospatriot” program Elena Belikova, Deputy Governor of the Kaluga Region Vasily Bykadorov, and head of the Baryatinsky District Administration Andrey Khokhlov.
In total, 600 searchers from 29 regions of Russia and 6 countries worldwide participated in the expedition.
