Russian border guards will no longer guard Armenia’s border with Iran and Turkey starting January 1, 2025 — they will be replaced by the border troops of Armenia’s National Security Service. Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have agreed that, from January 1, 2025, the Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Turkey borders will be guarded, along with Russian border guards, by the Armenian National Security Service’s border troops. This was reported by the Armenian government. Additionally, Armenian border guards will take over control of one of the checkpoints on the border with Iran, replacing Russian military personnel stationed there. Russian border troops have been guarding Armenia’s borders with Turkey and Iran since 1992, and Russian military personnel have also been working at the country’s airports.
