To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Russian National Library has launched a historical and educational digital project titled “Year of Victory. Day by Day” (https://nlr.ru/godpobedy)». The first series of publications focuses on the outcomes of 1944, a year remembered in the Great Patriotic War as the “year of decisive victories.” In January 1944, Leningrad celebrated the complete lifting of the blockade, and by November, the entire Soviet Union was liberated from the Nazi invaders. The war was moving westward, and the gradual restoration of peaceful life had begun. Soviet citizens joyfully welcomed the year 1945, confident it would bring the ultimate Victory. Throughout 2025, weekly materials from the Russian National Library’s collections will be published on the project page. These will spotlight the key events of 1945 and the topics that deeply resonated with everyone. The Russian National Library invites readers to relive the victorious year together, witness Victory Day on May 9, Victory over Japan Day on September 3, see the return of the first demobilized soldiers, and greet the first peaceful year of 1946. The project encompasses all types of materials: newspaper articles, posters, maps, postcards, photographs, leaflets, and books. Over 1,000 documents have been digitized for the project.
