One of the most memorable exhibits at the “Russia” exhibition was the stand of the Kemerovo region — Kuzbass.
The history of this region is closely linked to the exploration of Siberia. In the 18th century, by order of Peter the Great, expeditions were sent here to study natural resources.
In 1721, on the banks of the Tom River, at the site of the future city of Kemerovo, Mikhail Volkov discovered a coal seam. Thus began the history of these places.
Even today, as new deposits are being developed, Kuzbass remains the coal heart of Russia. About 60% of this resource is mined here.
However, for visitors to the “Russia” exhibition, the Kemerovo region was revealed from a new perspective.
The region is one of the most popular destinations for active tourism. In Gornaya Shoria, located in the south of the region, skiers and snowboarders from all over the world gather.
Here is the longest skiing period in Russia. The famous Sheregesh ski resort annually attracts about 2 million tourists.
The main exhibit of the Kuzbass stand is a mirrored 3D dinosaur skeleton. It is an exact replica of the Siberian Psittacosaurus, the largest archaeological discovery in modern Russia.
In fact, in the small village of Shestakovo in the Kemerovo region, lies the largest dinosaur cemetery in our country. This place attracts scientists from all over the world. The unique species of Psittacosaurus found here lived 130-100 million years ago, much earlier than all the most famous dinosaurs.
Today, a new cultural and patriotic center of Siberia is being formed in the Kemerovo region. Kuzbass is developing both as the largest industrial area and as a sporting, youthful, multifaceted modern region.
