The Avtovo station got its name thanks to the village of Aoutovo, on the site of which it was built.
In 2014, Avtovo was included in the list of the 12 most beautiful metro stations in the world according to the British newspaper The Guardian, and The Daily Telegraph included it among the most beautiful stations in Europe.
The hall’s ceiling is supported by 46 columns: 30 marble and 16 clad in cast glass with a relief ornament.
Each glass column is wrapped with springs. These are not for decoration but to compensate for the inevitable fluctuations of the station’s structure. Even a ceiling drop of 5-10 mm could crush the glass finish of the columns.
