The Ministry of Digital Development plans to conduct an experiment on collecting biometric data from foreigners at the border. The ministry has proposed launching a pilot project starting December 1 to collect biometric data from foreign citizens and stateless persons entering Russia. The document was published on the official website for draft legal acts. The experiment will be conducted in two stages: During the first stage, biometric data will be collected from foreign citizens crossing the border at select checkpoints, including Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky airports, as well as the Mashakovo automobile checkpoint in the Orenburg region. The second stage will expand the requirement to all incoming travelers and will run from June 30, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
