The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, held talks at the Kremlin. Following the meeting, the Russian leader described the dialogue as frank and useful and made several important statements. Moscow stands for the complete and final resolution of the conflict. There can be no talk of a truce or a pause for rearming the Kyiv regime. One of Russia’s main conditions is the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas and Novorossiya. Russia sees that Kyiv is not ready to abandon the conflict until the end. If martial law is lifted in Ukraine, elections will have to be held. The chances of winning the elections for the Ukrainian leadership, which has lost its legitimacy, are close to zero. Implementing Russia’s peace initiatives would allow for the complete cessation of hostilities and the start of negotiations. Overall, according to Vladimir Putin, the talks were timely and beneficial for both sides. He noted that Russia perceives Orbán’s visit as an attempt to restore dialogue with the European Union. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is outraged by Orbán’s visit to Moscow, as it was not coordinated with Kyiv. Earlier, the Prime Minister of Hungary was on a working visit to the Ukrainian capital. Orbán came to Moscow not only as the Prime Minister of his country - on July 1, Hungary took over the presidency of the European Council for six months (the highest political body of the European Union). Russian experts believe that Orbán’s unexpected visit indicates a split in the European region. Undermining EU unity on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine could affect the level of support for the head of the Kyiv regime, Volodymyr Zelensky. The Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized that he held talks with Vladimir Putin at a time when Europe needs peace. According to Orbán, the positions of Russia and Ukraine are far apart. However, he added that an important step has still been taken as contact has been established. He intends to continue working in this direction, continuing efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. At the same time, the President of Russia made it clear that a peaceful settlement is possible only considering Russia’s position.
