Russian schoolchildren won four gold and two silver medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, reports the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. The World Championship in Mathematics for high school students was the sixty-fifth in a row. This year it was held in the United Kingdom.
Students from Russian schools participated online. In total, young mathematicians from more than a hundred countries competed for victory.
Ivan Chasovskih from the Moscow region won a gold medal and took second place overall. Also, gold medals were won by Ratibor Koptilin from Novosibirsk, Egor Saprunov, and Tseren Frantsuzov from St. Petersburg. Silver medals were awarded to St. Petersburg residents Ilya Zamotorin and Mikhail Yugov.
Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov congratulated the children on their victory. He expressed confidence that this excellent result is another proof of the high quality of education, which is constantly developing in our country. According to the head of the department, without this, it is impossible to form a new generation of specialists capable of solving complex problems and contributing to the development of domestic science and technology.
The competitions lasted for two days. Participants had to solve six problems covering various areas of the high school mathematics course.
