Romania is home to a vast number of various resorts and sanatoriums. Among them, the balneological resort Sovata holds a special place. This unique natural location offers complete rest and quality natural treatment for many disease groups. People from almost all over the world come here to improve their health. This is explained by the special location of the sanatorium and the amazing combination of natural factors, which contribute not only to the effective rehabilitation of human body systems and organs after many diseases but also to rejuvenation and overall health strengthening.
State-of-the-art medical equipment and highly experienced medical staff help any individual to recover quickly and forget about all their ailments. For the resting patients, everything necessary for a full rest is available: excellent food, mineral waters, entertainment, and leisure activities, walks through amazing places, swimming, and dancing.
Sovata belongs to the group of resorts with climatic and balneological factors influencing human health. It is located in a unique natural spot in Europe: on the slopes of the Eastern Carpathians in Transylvania. The location of all the main health sources, lakes, and mines is the Praid-Sovata depression. Its altitude relative to sea level is about 500 meters. This is enough to create unique atmospheric conditions with low pressure and an optimal content of oxygen and minerals in the surrounding air.
The basin is surrounded on all sides by hills and mountains. These include the 900-meter Chirișelu, the 700-meter Capella hill, the small hill, and the Salt Mountain. Beciș Hill is a real giant, which reliably protects from the cold winds from the north. Its height is more than one thousand meters.
The balneological climatic resort Sovata has been used by people for health purposes since the distant year of 1597. However, it began its full medical activity only in 1850. Since then, the fame of this unique natural source of beauty, youth, and health has not allowed the path of those wishing to visit it and use all the offered opportunities to become overgrown.
And there is much to use here. For example, unique thermal lakes with a high content of helium. The largest of them is Lake Ursu. Its area is over 46,000 square meters. It is followed by Lake Aluniș with a water surface area of nine thousand square meters. There are also the Red Lake (Roșu) and the Green Lake (Verde). They are not as large as the first two, but are amazingly beautiful and provide a lot of pleasant impressions from swimming in them. The mountain lakes Șerpilor and Mierlei are distinguished by the high content of sodium and natural chlorine in the waters. This allows them to successfully treat vascular insufficiency and heart problems in almost any person.
The history of the origin of the saltiest lake in Europe, which is located near the resort of Sovata, is interesting. This is Lake Ursu, whose name translates from Romanian as bear. According to sources, the lake appeared on May 27, 1875, as a result of the collapse of a salt mine. Today, it is the main source of thermal healing waters at the Sovata resort.
The chemical composition of the local water is unique and has no analogs in the world. They simultaneously include sulfides, bromine, chlorides, sodium, and many other elements. Mineralization can vary from an indicator of 82 g/liter to 260 units. This is quite a large range of values. But in the treatment of different groups of diseases, this factor often has a decisive importance in achieving success. Any doctor involved in the rehabilitation of patients after a myocardial infarction or peptic ulcer disease can attest to this. In these two conditions, the level of water mineralization should be radically opposite. Similarly, in the treatment of liver and gallbladder diseases, the level of mineralization should be higher than in the therapy of pancreatic diseases or intestinal diseases.
Lake Ursu is not only a source of the purest mineral water. It is also an amazing natural phenomenon that successfully allows for the elimination of musculoskeletal diseases. Scientists were only able to explain this phenomenon a few decades ago. Its essence lies in the fact that a thin layer of fresh water forms on the surface of the lake, which excellently allows sunlight to pass through and does not let the heat of the heated layers evaporate into the atmosphere. This layer of cold fresh water is only ten centimeters thick. Its average temperature at the beginning of the swimming season is 20 degrees. But beneath it lie the true natural health treasures for humans. These are heavily mineralized layers with a temperature of at least fifty degrees Celsius. This unique phenomenon instantly removes all salts and toxins from the human body, freeing the joints and spine for flexibility and freedom of movement.
Swimming in Lake Ursu is allowed only from July to September. The rest of the time is needed for the water surface to regenerate itself and not destroy the layer of fresh water. During swimming, the warm and cold layers mix. Scientists worry that this may eventually destroy the unique phenomenon of Lake Ursu. Therefore, it is best to come here for rest and treatment from the end of June to the end of September. Although, at other times of the year, there are plenty of opportunities to significantly improve health.
For example, sapropelic muds. Their constant source and supplier is the Black Lake (Negru). The distinctive features of the muds of this place are the high content of unique combinations of minerals and organic biologically active substances. Special balneological sanatoriums operate year-round on the shore of the lake. Sapropelic muds can be used both for applying applications and for diluting water for therapeutic baths.
Here, all modern types of treatment and rehabilitation are presented. For the visitors, the latest equipment and rich medical experience are available. Here, treatment methods such as various therapeutic baths, mud wraps, therapy using electric current or water, kinetic treatment, and many others can be used.
Another unique opportunity to improve health is located 10 kilometers from the Sovata resort. This is the Praid salt mine. Its foundation is attributed to the Roman emperors, who knew about the healing power of this amazing place.
Visiting the salt mine is indicated for people with respiratory and cardiovascular system diseases. The treatment method consists in that a person spends a certain amount of time deep underground. The depth of the mine is over 120 meters. At the same time, it has everything necessary. There are not only playgrounds and cafes but also a church.
The climatic resort Sovata allows for the successful treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, the digestive system, and the gastrointestinal tract with equal success. Local doctors successfully cope with all known gynecological problems. They are also ready to help people with problems with the veins and endocrine system: obesity, thyroid gland.
Treatment at the Sovata balneological resort significantly strengthens the health of children. Visiting the salt mine completely eliminates frequent colds, attacks of bronchial asthma, and bronchitis.
Several comfortable hotels operate permanently on the territory of the resort. These are the "Sovata", "Aluniș", and "Brădet" hotels. All of them are located in close proximity to the lakes and balneological sanatoriums. The hotels' territories have everything necessary for the convenience and comfort of the guests. These include car parks, hair salons, swimming pools and saunas, restaurants, and nightclubs.
Usually, the hotel is included in the treatment or health package. As a rule, each of them has its own specialization in disease groups. But all of them are distinguished by the highest level of service.
