One of the oldest and most picturesque cities in the country, founded at the beginning of the 13th century. The city got its name from the Timiș River, on whose banks the first settlements appeared. Some call the city "Little Vienna" because of the large number of old baroque buildings. Its vibrant architecture, rich history, and excellent infrastructure have made Timișoara very attractive to travelers. The first mentions of the city date back to the beginning of the 13th century when there was a Roman fortress on its territory. During the Middle Ages, it was conquered by the Turks and remained under their rule until the 18th century. The modern city represents a unique combination of architectural styles and cultural traditions, with historical landmarks from various eras on its territory. Timișoara is one of the largest and most interesting cities in Romania from a cultural point of view. The history of the city spans over 800 years, during which a unique culture and a range of interesting traditions have formed here. An interesting feature of Timișoara is the abundance of landscape decorations. In some city squares and boulevards, you can see real flower carpets, with the city's landscape design changing every year. Throughout the year, the city hosts interesting festivals dedicated to various fields of historical and contemporary culture. Most foreign tourists are attracted by the musical festivals held here, with the popular JazzTM jazz festival taking place since 2016. The festival is usually held in July, with a large open stage set up in one of the central squares for musicians to perform. This festival has international status, with performers from various countries around the world participating. Almost all concerts and other entertainment programs within this festival can be attended for free by city guests. A good tradition for the city has become the annual StudentFest festival. This festival was first organized and held in 1992 by local students, with the aim of acquainting guests with various directions of contemporary culture. As many years ago, the main organizers of the celebration are local youth centers, with most entertainment organized and conducted by independent volunteers. Guests of the main student celebration of the year can expect interesting open-air theater performances, musical concerts, and exhibitions by young artists and designers. Equally interesting is the annual street art festival Delivery, which is sure to appeal to all fans of contemporary culture. It is believed that the birthplace of this festival is Bucharest, but over the years, the celebration has been held in various cities across the country. For Timișoara, it has become an essential part of the annual cultural program, with special entertainment programs organized during the festival. Its guests can attend film screenings and theater performances, admire the works of contemporary photographers and artists, and get acquainted with other current areas of street art. In October, the city is always visited by fans of electronic music, with a festival dedicated to this musical genre held during this period. The city also pays special attention to organizing traditional calendar holidays, with the most interesting traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas and New Year. When the cold weather comes to the city and most landscape decorations are removed, the lush flower beds are replaced with luxurious light installations. In winter, walking through the city's streets is especially interesting after dark when, instead of splendid flower carpets, you can see thematic light installations.
