Foreign companies will have to pay 20% more when leaving the Russian market — the minimum fee for selling businesses will rise from 15% to 35%. Russian authorities have decided to increase the voluntary contribution that foreign companies must pay to the state when exiting the Russian market and selling assets. Compared to the current 15%, the amount will increase to 35% of the market value of the asset, media reports. This means an immediate 20% increase. Additionally, the mandatory discount when selling Russian assets to foreign companies will rise from 50% to 60% of the real price, and deals valued over ₽50 billion will only be allowed with presidential approval. Preliminary calculations suggest that sellers will now be able to receive only 5% of the market price of the sold enterprises. The changes to the current conditions are related to the state's desire to control foreign investments within the country — the concept of a voluntary contribution was introduced for foreign businesses in Russia at the end of 2022. Officially, the Ministry of Finance has not yet announced the decision to update the conditions, but the changes are expected to come into effect soon.
