On October 29, 2024, Saint Longinus the Centurion, who was present at the Cross of the Lord, is commemorated. He is revered as the patron of those suffering from eye diseases. In popular belief, October 29’s sunlight holds special healing power, making it essential to go outside and expose winter clothes to the sun. The story of this saint is closely tied to Christ's last days. Longinus was one of the Roman guards who kept watch over the cross with the crucified Jesus Christ. He was chosen to pierce Christ with a spear. According to legend, he was born with cataracts, and at the moment he pierced Christ, a drop of blood splashed onto his face, instantly healing him and restoring his sight. As written in apocryphal accounts, including the Acts of Pilate, after this act and the miracle he witnessed, Longinus repented and turned to faith. The relics of the saint are kept in the Church of Saint Augustine in Rome. Currently, there are three artifacts in the world claiming to be the tip of Longinus' spear. One is in the Vatican, another in Vienna, and the third in Armenia. What to Do on October 29, 2024: Take a walk under the sun’s rays. Dry and store summer clothes.
