Banat is a historical region located in the southwestern part of Romania, naturally bounded to the north by the Mureș River, to the west by the Tisza River, to the south by the Danube River, and to the east by the western side of the Banat River. The Southern Carpathians and the Southern Western Carpathians separated it from Transylvania and Oltenia. Banat has a very rich history, as evidenced by numerous ruins dating back to antiquity and medieval fortresses scattered throughout the region. The region's architectural heritage is special, with history leaving a strong mark on the urban landscape due to the presence of numerous buildings constructed during the Austro-Hungarian Empire's rule. A characteristic element of this region is multiculturalism, with more than 20 ethnic groups living in this territory, each maintaining its national identity, traditions, and customs over the centuries while exemplifying coexistence and tolerance. Crișana is characterized by diverse and impressive terrain, especially in the mountainous area located in the eastern part of the region, which is mostly karstic, with numerous caves, gorges, valleys, and hills descending to the west and spreading out on the plain. Crișana has a rich history that has left its mark on both the urban and rural landscape, with the presence of many architectural styles. There are many buildings with distinctive architecture, giving the region a bohemian appearance. From a cultural point of view, the region is very rich in local customs and traditions and is characterized by multiculturalism. Semenic - Caraș Gorge National Park Semenic - Cheile Carașului National Park is located in the southwestern part of Romania, within Caraș-Severin County, in the southern part of the historical region of Banat. Its mountainous area is called "Banatul Montan," situated in the Anina and Semenic mountain ranges. The park, covering an area of 36,214 hectares and ranging in altitude from 200 to 1,447 meters, includes natural elements of special value from physical-geographical, floristic, hydrological, geological, and speleological aspects, offering a characteristic landscape of karst and forest areas with impressive tourist potential. The park includes eight reserves established in strictly protected areas. The Caraș Gorges are one of the most impressive karst formations on the surface, as well as the longest and wildest gorges in Romania. Danube Gorge The "Danube Gorge," as locals call it, is a particularly charming land located on the banks of the Danube River, bounded to the west by the Nera River and to the east by the Cerna River. The waters of the river have carved this impressive gorge out of granite and limestone with basins and narrow sections that follow each other, creating a breathtaking landscape, considered the longest and most beautiful gorge in Europe. Cheile Nerei - Beușnița National Park The park covers an area of 36,758 hectares, encompassing the entire southern part of the Anina Mountains and part of the northern part of the Locva Mountains, including the karst zone in the middle course of the Nera River, which is also the foundation of the park. One of nature's most impressive creations is the Bigăr Waterfall. Located within the Cheile Nerei-Beușnița Natural Reserve on the Valea Minișului, between the Bozovici commune and the town of Anina, it was declared by The World Geography as the most beautiful waterfall in the world. In addition, the park also includes a number of impressive natural monuments, such as: Dracului Lake, Ochiul Beiului Lake, the Beușnița, Șușara, and Văioaga Waterfalls, hanging wooden bridges, the Călugăra Monastery, and the tunnels of Caraula Hill.
