Daniel Kirică, a former defender at "Zenit" who spent three years at the St. Petersburg club and won the silver in the Russian championship, as well as the Premier League Cup.
Kirică, aged 50, lives in Ploiești (Romania) but maintains connections with Russia: he still speaks Russian fluently, is friends with Vladislav Radimov, and plans to attend a "Zenit" match.
In an interview with "SE", Daniel talked about his conflict with Petrzhela, remembered how Arshavin dyed his hair in blue-white-blue, and called on Russian fans to support the Romanian national team at Euro 2024.
"All my friends in Romania feel good about Russians and Putin. I even have a T-shirt with him." Former "Zenit" player Kirică spoke about the global situation.
– Currently, there is only one Romanian footballer playing in the Russian Premier League – Erik Bicfalvi.
– He has already become a legend of "Ural". I would even call him Russian and give him a passport, ha-ha! I met Erik when he was still playing in Romania. I can say that he is not only a good footballer but also a great person. Very intelligent.
– Considering the political situation, is his game followed in Romania?
– No, but I want to confess: 75-80% of Romania's population supports Russia. We all know what Ukraine is – shit*! All my friends and acquaintances feel good about Russians and personally about Putin. They think he did the right thing.
Even more, I tell you: I love my native Romania, but what has my country turned into? Everything has been sold, just like the Ukrainians. There's nothing left! I know your clubs and national team are now in international ban. Why? It's unfair! What did the athletes do? It shouldn't be like this!
– You openly express support for Russia. Aren't you afraid that after this interview is published, you might have problems in Romania?
– On the contrary. I want everyone to know. Write it down: "Let all of Europe know that Kirică loves Russia!" I'm serious. I even have a Putin T-shirt, I wear it to the gym. And in my office, there's a statue of your president, right in a prominent place. May I send a message to Russian fans?
– Of course!
– Times are tough, you need to wait. Perhaps the leadership should consider transitioning to Asia. But know that you are supported abroad!
And I want to tell you to support the Romanian national team at Euro 2024. No one believes in us, but I believe we will surprise.
You'll see! – said Kirică, who played for "Zenit" from 2002 to 2004.
