These are the names of the two swans that inhabit the Summer Garden.
Swans have been released into the Karpiev Pond since 1951. During Peter the Great's time, waterfowl were kept in the Menagerie Pond of the Summer Garden. The Karpiev Pond, created in 1716, was intended for breeding fish for the imperial table.
Until 2020, another pair of swans swam in the pond – Ruslan and Lyudmila. Elisei and Liubava arrived at the Summer Garden in 2021. Elisei is the son of Ruslan and Lyudmila, and Liubava is the daughter of Athena and Perseus, who live at the Piskarev Memorial Pond from spring to autumn.
The swans are released into the Karpiev Pond in late spring, and at the end of October, they go to winter in the Leningrad Zoo.
