Russian kickboxers at the World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) World Championship in Alicante, Spain, will participate under the Russian flag and anthem. From November 18 to 22, 32 of our athletes will compete. However, as Mikhail Gerasimov, head of the All-Russian Kickboxing Federation, clarified to Readovka, only half of the initially registered Russian athletes were granted visas to Spain. Local authorities cited an alleged lack of valid reasons for their visit to the country.
For the first time since 2019, Russian athletes will be allowed to represent Russia with the national flag and hear the anthem during the award ceremony. At that time, WADA's executive committee suspended RUSADA’s compliance status for four years. During this period, Russian kickboxers had abstained from competing in such events on principle.
Gerasimov emphasized that the athletes are very pleased with the opportunity to showcase their skills at the tournament in Spain — especially under the Russian flag and anthem.
