At the end of 2024, some Visa and Mastercard cards will lose their chip security certificate, and renewing it will be impossible due to these payment systems leaving the country. Banks will decide independently whether to continue servicing these cards, notes Svetlana Krivoruchko, professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. "No one knows the exact dates when Visa and Mastercard cards will stop working; it's a gradual process. Therefore, cardholders should not wait for the critical moment and should get a 'Mir' payment system card now, which is in no way inferior to foreign tools," advises the expert.
