The "Neptune" Fountain is the centerpiece of the Upper Garden composition in Peterhof. The area of its basin exceeds 3,000 square meters. In the center of the fountain, on a pedestal, stands the figure of the sea lord, crowned and holding a trident. Interestingly, the statue of "Neptune" was purchased by Paul I in Nuremberg. Crafted by German artisans in 1650, the sea king turned out to be more than half a century older than the park and the palace. During the German occupation, the entire sculptural group was stolen. However, after the victory, it was returned – the sculptures, including the statues of Neptune and Apollo, were found in a scrap metal warehouse at a German factory.
