The Arts Festival "Gorky +", dedicated to the writer Maxim Gorky, will be held in Moscow from August 8 to 11 and will include dozens of various events, including performances, lectures, exhibitions, a circus show, and film screenings. This was announced at a press conference at TASS by the festival's artistic director, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Mironov.
An immersive show will be presented at the Gorky Film Studio. The studio's general director, Yuliana Slashcheva, said that during the festival, participants will be able to see the process of creating films based on Gorky's works. "It will be a real immersive show, featuring different stages of film production. <...> Spectators will not just watch, but will participate in this show. For them, it can become a kind of first contact with the professional world of cinema. In addition, during the festival, there will be a directing and acting laboratory conducted by Yuri Kvyatkovsky for beginner actors, directors, and playwrights,” Slashcheva said in a video message shown at the press conference.
The program is diverse and designed for audiences of all ages and preferences. The festival will feature theatrical laboratories, one of which will be conducted by Argentine director Guillermo Cacace, who, according to Grigoryants, "will prepare a sketch based on Gorky's 'The Summer People' with Russian artists during the week leading up to the festival."
For the first time, the festival will bring the best performances of recent years based on the writer's works to Moscow, such as "The Philistines," "The Last Ones," "Vassa Zheleznova," "The Summer People." These productions can be seen on the stage of the Youth Theater. "There is a special project based on the story 'Dreams' by Maxim Gorky."
The "Gorky +" festival is held with the support of the Moscow government and the Moscow City Department of Culture. The organizers see their mission as preserving the literary heritage of Maxim Gorky and introducing a wide audience to his work.
The festival traces its history back to the "Gorky in Gorky Park" festival, which was first held in 2022. In 2023, the festival expanded its geography: it was held not only in Gorky Park but also in Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod.
The detailed program for the 2024 festival will be posted on the festival's website, where it will also be possible to sign up for some events with a limited number of spectators.
