Russian UnionPay cards issued by Gazprombank have stopped being serviced by dozens of foreign banks in various countries. It is already clear that both state and private institutions in Turkey, Thailand, China, and the UAE are refusing to process these cards. The list is likely to grow in the coming hours — people from different parts of the world are reporting technical errors when trying to withdraw money. On November 21, the U.S. Treasury Department announced a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. As part of this package, blocking restrictions have been imposed on Gazprombank, which facilitated payments for Russian gas deliveries to European countries. Update: OTP Bank in Hungary has also stopped servicing Gazprombank’s UnionPay cards.
