Leave behind the hustle and bustle of Bucharest and head to a popular vacation spot in Romania on the beautiful Black Sea coast! The Romanian Black Sea coast is divided into two sections: the northern part, with relief characteristic of deltas and lagoons (between Musura and Cape Midia), and the southern part, with high, steep shores, bays, and capes (from Cape Midia to the border with Bulgaria). On the Romanian coast, the climate is dry steppe, influenced by the sea, similar to that of Crimea. The tourist season lasts from the second half of May to October. Start with a visit to Constanta. Take a walk through the old part of the city to admire the stunning view of the Black Sea coast. The largest resort on the coast is Mamaia, located north of Constanta, on a narrow strip of land separating the Black Sea from Lake Siutghiol. Mamaia is a popular summer vacation spot for residents of Romania and visitors from other countries, thanks to massive investments in tourism infrastructure development. Mangalia, the southernmost point of Romania's tourist coast, is located at the same latitude as Nice, Monaco, and San Remo, well-known Mediterranean resorts. Consequently, the climate in Mangalia is considered subtropical, and the tourist season is the longest. As a health center, the resort operates year-round. Several resorts on the Romanian Black Sea coast are named after characters from Roman and ancient Greek mythology — Neptune, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Olympus. Other resorts include Cap Aurora, Eforie Sud, and Eforie Nord. The traditional vacation spot for Romanian students is Costinesti, while the fishing village of Vama Veche, located on the border with Bulgaria, is known for its hippie atmosphere. Mangalia The distance to Bucharest is over 200 kilometers, so even by high-speed train, the journey takes 4-5 hours. The optimal travel option is from Constanta, which is 44 kilometers from Mangalia. More than two millennia ago, on the site of present-day Mangalia, the ancient city-fortress of Callatis was founded. The ancient Greeks chose the place for its beauty, which was appreciated in the following centuries — during the Roman Empire and Turkish rule. In 12th-century documents, the city's name is Pangalya, which means "the most beautiful" in Byzantine. Over time, the name transformed into Mangalia, still considered the most beautiful city on the coast. Typically, modern cities are built near the ruins of ancient ones. Mangalia is located exactly on the site of the ancient fortress, making it the oldest inhabited city in Romania. The infrastructure of the southernmost resort allows for a very rich tour program in Mangalia. Architectural monuments from ancient times and the Roman Empire, a 16th-century Turkish mosque, and an archaeological museum with a rich collection of artifacts from past centuries will satisfy even the most curious tourists. A separate excursion destination is Constanta, with its diverse architecture and museums. Mangalia's mineral springs were appreciated by the Romans, but the city became a balneological resort only after World War I. European nobility successfully treated tuberculosis here, a common disease at that time. The Mangalia resort features sapropelic and peat muds, as well as thermal waters and mineral springs. Sodium-calcium sulfide and chloride-bicarbonate water baths, as well as mud treatments, are indicated for arthritis, gynecological and skin diseases, respiratory and nervous system diseases. In addition, patients are offered a full range of physiotherapy procedures according to specially designed courses. Thermal water pools, mineral baths, and thalassotherapy are believed to create special opportunities for rejuvenation and improvement of appearance. Not far from Mangalia is a famous horse farm. You can go on an excursion there, engage in equestrian sports, or simply ride a horse. As part of hippotherapy, the horse farm offers special therapeutic programs as part of the resort's health recovery. The beach in Mangalia is a distinctive feature of the resort. The unusual sand, with a high content of sapropelic particles, is one of the main natural factors for health improvement. In addition to biologically active sand, the beach is known for its perfectly gentle slope into the sea, suitable for children, and is considered one of the widest on the coast. Behind the beach is a natural park, which makes it easier to endure the heat and the air is enriched with phytoncides. Each season, Mangalia becomes a venue for music and theater festivals. Tourists tired of sightseeing and health treatments should take boat trips along the coast. In the evening, for those who want to have fun, there are nightclubs, restaurants, bars, and discos. The resort's restaurants offer a wide range of dishes from national and European cuisine. The uniqueness of Mangalia's gastronomic establishments lies in the use of only eco-friendly and fresh products supplied by local farmers. Therefore, the local cuisine is not only tasty but also healthy and safe.
