At the Center for Advanced Research in Artificial Intelligence at Plehanov University, there was a focus on assessing the atmosphere at the university from the perspective of happiness, reports the REU website. To achieve this, a neural network was trained to determine the happiness index. The development team used artificial intelligence and trained computer models based on image analysis and the ability to decipher emotions to derive the desired parameters for calculating the index. It is noteworthy that such an indicator as the global happiness index is determined annually at the initiative of the UN. When calculating it, parameters such as income level, medical care, social support, generosity, and freedom level are considered. According to analytical studies conducted this year, the happiness index was determined in 143 countries. Russia was in the middle of the ranking. It can be added that a person's satisfaction with most of these parameters determines not only the happiness index but also affects the person's psychological health. At Plehanov University, fewer parameters were considered for calculating their index, based on face recognition data and determining people's emotions on the university campus. According to Sergei Yarushev, the Center's director, the help of the neural network, which can determine the happiness index, will allow not only monitoring its changes but also improving the overall atmosphere for students and staff of the university. "The development and implementation of such projects will be an important step in the development of artificial intelligence technologies in educational institutions in Russia. REU's experience in this direction may be in demand in the future by other universities," believes Ksenia Ekimova, REU's vice-rector. Earlier, the Russian company iCognito trained a program to recognize a person's psychological state by analyzing their text messages and provide recommendations when anxiety symptoms are detected.
