In 1947, Moscow celebrated its 800th anniversary. The city's birthday celebration in 1947 took place on September 7. Interestingly, back then, the City Day was not typically celebrated as it is today. Celebrations were only held for truly significant milestones. Naturally, the Central Telegraph building was decorated. At that time, it was adorned for any major holiday. For the 800th anniversary, a huge portrait of Stalin lit up the telegraph. The contours of Moscow's main landmarks, such as the Historical Museum and the Hotel Moskva, were illuminated. There were also festive parades in various parts of the capital. People came out to see the bright and festive city. On what is now Manezhnaya Square, people danced and celebrated. Music was played by orchestras across different parts of the city.
