On June 8, 2012, the national show-museum "Grand Maket Rossiya" generously opened its doors to the public. Grand Maket Rossiya is a national show-museum in St. Petersburg. It is a model made on a scale of 1:87 with an area of 800 m², where collective images of the regions of the Russian Federation are combined. It is the largest model in Russia and the second largest in the world. About a hundred people worked on the creation of the model for five years. The model presents a depiction of everyday Russian reality, realized through numerous mini-scenes. Everyday situations demonstrate various types of human activity: work, leisure, sports, education, military service, country life, travel, mass celebrations, and even an attempt to escape from places of detention. Land transport is represented by cars and trucks of various types: trams, buses, trains, agricultural, construction, and military vehicles. Visitors have the opportunity to start the movement on the model using interactive buttons located around the perimeter of the model. Every 13 minutes, day and night gradually change over the model. As light sources, for the first time in the world, more than 800,000 powerful LEDs of different colors were used, allowing uniform illumination of the entire model space without creating shadows. To optimize movement on the model, more than 2500 meters of rails were laid on several levels and 452 switch points were installed. The total number of rolling stock units is more than 2700, of which 250 are locomotives and 10 are special cleaning trains. Movement is diversified by 2 revolver exchangers used for storing and changing 60 trains, as well as 2 turntables that allow the locomotive to be turned 180 degrees. The maximum height difference is 1 meter, and to overcome it, the train needs to travel 50 meters on a spiral lift. Over the years, tens of thousands of residents of St. Petersburg and visitors to our city have visited this unique exhibition. The dynamics and richness of the model are provided by hundreds of moving trains and cars, light and sound effects, and thousands of miniature figurines creating genre scenes. The amazing effect of the day and night change does not leave any visitor indifferent!
