The service for paying for transportation via biometrics ("by gaze") will be launched in six regional metros by the end of 2025.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister — Chief of Staff of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko.
"Already this summer, it will be possible to pay for metro access via biometrics in Kazan, and by the end of 2024 — in Nizhny Novgorod," Grigorenko noted.
The system will also be launched in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara, and Novosibirsk.
Recall that the Unified Biometric System was created in Russia as part of the national program "Digital Economy of the Russian Federation."
It allows a person to verify their identity without presenting a passport, using only their biometric characteristics: face and voice.
With the help of biometrics, you can receive banking services, open a business, obtain an electronic signature, attend sports events, use government services with maximum security, etc.
The system makes obtaining any services more accessible. This is especially important for people with limited mobility and those living in remote regions. To date, about 2 million Russians have registered their biometric data.
The use of the Unified Biometric System is planned to be developed further. At SPIEF (St. Petersburg International Economic Forum), it was announced that the service is technically ready for the remote sale of alcohol. Additionally, banks will expand the possibilities for obtaining mortgages through biometrics.
