Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the signing of an agreement between Russia and Belarus on the formation of a unified electricity market. The document was published on July 29 on the official portal for the publication of normative acts. "To accept the proposal of the Government of the Russian Federation to sign the agreement. It is deemed expedient to sign the agreement provided for by this order at the highest level," the document states. The order authorizes the Russian Ministry of Energy to make changes to the draft agreement during negotiations in coordination with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Earlier, on July 18, following a meeting with the new Foreign Minister of the Republic, Maksim Ryzhenkov, the State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, Dmitry Mezentsev, spoke about the formation of new integration project programs. According to Mezentsev, during the negotiations, Minsk's focus on cooperation with Moscow in this format was also confirmed. Additionally, on July 10, he mentioned that Russia and Belarus are working substantively on forming a unified electricity market. "Rosatom," in cooperation with Belarusian partners, has completed the construction of a nuclear power plant in Ostrovets. Both the first and second units have been commissioned, the state secretary specified. He also stated that further work is proceeding according to the program's plans, and a report will be presented to the Council of Ministers of the Union State and the Supreme State Council in November-December of this year.
