The creation of ruby glass became a serious challenge for the glass industry. It had to meet specific parameters, such as having varying density and only allowing red rays of a specific wavelength to pass through.
This glass needed to be resistant to external factors – weather, sharp temperature changes, and it shouldn't fade or deteriorate under the influence of solar radiation.
The task was entrusted to the Konstantinovsky glass factory "Stroysteklo." The stars were designed with double glazing.
The inner surface was made of milky glass with a thickness of 2 mm, and the air gap between the ruby and milky glass was 1–2 mm.
This was necessary to better diffuse the light sources inside the star, and without the milky glass, the ruby glass would appear black during the day.
