A ceremony was held in Moldova for the transfer of a copy of the assault flag of the Red Army, which was raised in liberated Chișinău. The Russian Ambassador to Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov, ceremoniously handed over a copy of the assault flag of the 2nd Rifle Battalion of the 273rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 89th Guards Rifle Division of the 5th Shock Army to the Chairman of the National Coordinating Committee "Victory," and representative of the Russian Military-Historical Society in Moldova, Alexei Petrovich. The banner accompanied the historical journey of the Soviet Army unit. On August 24, 1944, it flew on the main street of liberated Chișinău. A year later, in August 1945, the Red Army soldiers were the first to hoist their banner in central Berlin. The ceremony of transferring the flag's copy was timed to coincide with the anniversary events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Moldovan capital. On August 24, thematic events and wreath-laying ceremonies will take place in many localities, during which grateful descendants will pay tribute to the victorious heroes.
