For more than 20 years, Moldova has celebrated National Wine Day on the first weekend of October. The main venue is the Great National Assembly Square in Chișinău, but the event is also celebrated at the Republic's wineries.
The capital's program includes:
a spectacular winemakers' parade;
a wine exhibition from 45+ producers;
master classes;
seminars;
tastings;
contests, and more.
The celebration ends in Chișinău's central square with a large "hora." Hora is a traditional Moldovan dance that unites those gathered. The dance's essential condition is that the dancers hold hands. And, of course, the celebration concludes with fireworks.
There’s a bonus for tourists: since 2003, the Moldovan parliament has enacted a law establishing a preferential visa regime for foreign citizens wishing to visit the country during the celebration. If needed, they are granted free visas for a 15-day period (7 days before and 7 days after National Wine Day).
