What can and cannot be done on October 28, 2024. October 28, 2024, marks the day of Saint Yefimiy of Saloniki, also known as Yefimiy of Autumn, or traditionally "Lnyanitsa" and "Pchelnik" (Flax and Honey Day). It is believed that on this day, the roots of plants merge with the soil, insects burrow underground, and nature falls asleep, while spirits return to homes after spending the summer outside. The future saint was born in the 9th century in Galatia, in the city of Ancyra, with the name Nikita. He lost his father at an early age, and his mother insisted he marry, though he was still a young boy. However, when his daughter was born and he turned 18, he announced his wish to devote his life to God and took monastic vows under the name Yefimiy. After a few years in the Pisidian monastery on Mount Olympus, he moved to Mount Athos and took on the great schema, dedicating three years to silence and twelve years to isolation. Later, he emerged to serve people, practicing the life of a pillar saint near Saloniki for five years, constantly praying and helping those who sought his aid. After the death of his close friend, the hermit Joseph, he moved to Mount Peristera. There, by God’s will, he founded two monasteries—one for men and one for women—and led them for 14 years in the rank of deacon. His mother and wife both took monastic vows in one of these monasteries. He passed away at the age of 74, and his relics are preserved in Saloniki (modern Thessaloniki, Greece).
