On December 9, 2024, St. Alipius the Stylite and St. George the Victorious are commemorated.
In Russia, this day was known as "Yuriev Day" and held special significance for centuries. According to the 1497 Code of Law, all serfs were allowed, during the week before and the week after this day, to voluntarily move to a different landlord. This period coincided with the end of agricultural work, when taxes and obligations were settled, and the serfs were granted temporary freedom. This rule was in effect for almost 800 years, from the 11th to the 17th centuries.
