In Addis Ababa, at the hospital of the Ekateet-12 Medical College, the "Mission of Kindness" has begun.
For two weeks, doctors from the Novgorod region will be providing rehabilitation to children with neurological disorders, cerebral palsy, and spinal muscular atrophy in the most severe cases, as well as conducting examinations, diagnostics, workshops, and seminars for local specialists.
In the Russian Federation, standards for the rehabilitation and habilitation of children with developmental disabilities have been developed, with clear action algorithms and methodological recommendations. The Russian medical delegation is led by Sergei Viktorovich Drugov, Deputy Chief Physician for Pediatrics at the Borovichi Central District Hospital.
The head of the pediatric department at the hospital, Medes Shimekit, mentioned that the experience of Russian specialists is beneficial not only for the doctors but especially for the mothers of these children:
"Not everyone has the opportunity to visit the hospital regularly for rehabilitation, but the knowledge gained will help them work with their children at home."
She also expressed hope that the mission will continue, as the help of Russian orthopedic specialists and rehabilitation experts is in high demand in the country.
